The Walk to Emmaus is a spiritual renewal program intended to strengthen the local church through the development of Christian disciples and leaders. The program's approach seriously considers the model of Christ's servanthood and encourages Christ's disciples to act in ways appropriate to being "a servant of all."

As you are all aware our State President has ordered a ban on all gatherings of over 100 and instituted social distancing and hygiene practices to curb the spread of the Covid-19 virus. EMSA, in response, has issued an advisory to all Emmaus communities, and I quote, “….. to suspend Walks, Flights, Encounters and large gatherings until after Easter or until government lifts the implemented steps.”

Your board has consequently taken the decision to follow EMSA’s advisory and to suspend all Walks, Flights, Encounters, Gatherings and meetings with immediate effect. As far as it applies to KZN this suspension will remain in force until further notice.

In our case these restrictions have very little short term impact with only the Face to Face Gathering which was to have been on 1 April, having been cancelled. The long term prognosis is however uncertain and the fourth Team Formation Day for Walks 123 and 124 scheduled for Saturday 18 April may well be impacted. The situation will be regularly monitored and you will be immediately advised of any changes. Until such time the suspension remains in force.

We call on all our community to act responsibly and to strictly adhere to social distancing and hygiene practices. We need to make sure that we are part of the remedy and not part of the cause.

Should you feel unwell or suspect that you may have contracted the virus please self quarantine and seek medical advice.

Please do not panic. Keep your eyes on Jesus, not on the storm. As those disciples in the storm on the Sea of Galilee found out, they, like us now, could do nothing about the storm that threatened them but when they looked to the one who could, all was calmed and they were safe.

So please look to Jesus and pray daily for those all over the world who have contracted the virus. Also pray for the medical staff who place their own lives at risk to attend to the sick and for the researchers and medical scientists working to find a vaccine. Also for those in authority who implement and oversee the measures to restrict the spread of the virus.

May the peace of the Lord be with you all.
